Allan Donnelly

Allan Donnelly graduated as a podiatrist from Sydney Institute of Technology in 1981. Initially working at the St George Hospital, Kogarah, he then joined a group practice in Cronulla. Several years later Allan became a full-time teacher in  Podiatry at the SIT and later went on to become the Senior Head Teacher of the program, a position he held for five years. During those years at SIT, Allan was responsible for teaching all aspects of Podiatry including nail surgery, sports podiatry, foot orthotics and diabetes. He was involved with the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital’s High Risk Diabetic Foot Clinic and also set up and supervised foot clinics for children at both Lithgow Hospital and Penrith Health Centre. Allan moved to Bungendore with his wife in 2000 and now has two children. Allan currently provides podiatry services to Bungendore, Braidwood, Jerrabomberra and Southern Cross Care in Canberra and is involved with the training of ANU medical students at both the Bungendore and Braidwood Medical Centres. Allan has had a special interest in outdoor recreation for nearly thirty-five years. He is a current member of the Canberra Bushwalking Club and in the past has been a member of the Sydney Bushwalking Club, the Sydney Rock Climbing Club and Bushwalkers Wilderness Rescue. In 1997 he was the foot care advisor to the Australian Antarctica crossing led by Peter Treseder. Allan has walked and climbed in many locations including Tasmania, New Zealand, Chile, France, the UK and in 2008, the Kokoda Trail. Allan headed the steering committee for the establishment of a Bendigo Community Bank® in Bungendore which opened in July 2006 and continues to be a vibrant community worker. Recognised in this role, he became the 2006 Australia Day Bungendore Citizen of the Year. Allan's formal qualifications are: Dip Pod., Dip Teach.; B Ed., M Ed., JP
